Experience Through Their Eyes

I had heard excellent things about their food, so we finally made the effort to try it. It did not disappoint! The appearance was a bit off-putting. The reviews that call it a hole-in-the-wall or a dive bar are absolutely accurate. This is not a fancy place by any stretch of the imagination. None of the furniture matches and it's kinda dingy. The beer list was in a sheet protector hanging on the wall. It was also very cold, but it was very cold outside, so I'll give that a pass for now. Calling this a grocery store is one helluva stretch. It's not even what I would consider a convenience store. I saw a few bags of chips and lots of beverages (alcoholic and pop). BUT We were greeted quickly and warmly and seated immediately. Our server got our drinks very quickly. I really wanted to try the gizzards but the smallest portion was 1/2 pound. My husband would not eat them, so I passed. My olive burger was MASSIVE (note the salt shaker in the photo for size reference) and the large "side" of fries was close to a whole bag. We could have easily split the smaller order. The burger was ooey gooey excellence and the fries were good, too. Everything came out fast and HOT. The prices were more than reasonable for the portions. Although I probably wouldn't seek this place out in the future, I also wouldn't hesitate to go again if I were in the area. I, personally, would not take children to this establishment as it is very much a bar with loud regulars. I also wouldn't consider this place for a date night. A casual dinner and beer? Yes. There was plenty of parking and it appeared wheelchair accessible.

This place came highly recommended as a hole in the wall. Boy oh boy did it live up to the hype. We weren't sure what to expect when walking in but we were quickly greeted and offered some drinks and menus from George. I got the bacon cheeseburger and my wife just wanted some loaded fries. We were not prepared for the portion of loaded fries!! So good but holy portion size. My burger was delicious. Great bacon, patty, and bun. The bun was so big, soft, and toasted. Absolutely will be back

Primary frequented by locals but very welcoming to outsiders. Owners are Big MSU fans along with the patrons. So I felt right at home. Large food portions. The fries were unusually good. The Onion rings looked great, I will try those next time. I spit an Olive Burger with my wife, which left us enough room to split a half order of fries. Like I said, large portions.

I was so excited to visit South Riley as I hadn't been here since I was a kid 30 years ago. The food was great! The portions are big! My daughter said they were the best wings she has had. Unfortunately the service wasn't as good. The waitress was one of the rudest uptight women I have ever dealt with at a restaurant. We thought it was one of those places where they get paid to be mean. When someone orders something that you do not serve, simply say I'm sorry we don't serve that. Maybe she was just having a bad day and chose to take it out on customers. Also because the servings are so big the cook came out and asked if we were having anyone else join the four of us. When my daughter said no, he said we ordered too much food and should take off one of the apps. We told him we were fine with it we wanted to try it and take home leftovers. He insisted that we not have the two appetizers and took off our loaded fries. I just thought that was really strange.... He was very nice. With that being said we still tipped the waitress 30%. When we looked back we learned she does actually know how to smile. Too bad she couldn't have been nicer to us and the two young girls we were with.

This would be considered a "Dive" but with very friendly people and more than enough delicious food! Our group of 12 men enjoyed their onion rings and bottle caos (battered fried sliced jalapenos), for supper most everyone ordered their olive burger & fries. My buddy ordered shrimp basket while I ordered a medium meat lovers pizza . Great meal, great friends, great bar/dinner.
